The Art of Being a Dad
Dads bring unique creativity to parenting.
Unlike maternal nurturing or instincts, dad’s parenting skills are intuitive at best.
- Dads LEARN to be a daddy.
- Dads are the consummate trial and error king of guys.
- Dads are not opposed to being uninhibited or to acting like a complete silly person if it brings a smile to his little child.
- Dads are like tuba or base drums in the band. Dads add the sensation, groove or bottom to parenting. Yes, daddy is he foundational cement.
- Dads founded the term “Risk Management”. They know intuitively, just how far to push, prod or coach the little ones to discover and explore their limitations.
- Dads are the unpaid family consultants. Every once in a while, dads get to make the tough decisions. i.e. “You will eat your dinner,” You will apologize!”
- Dads are teachable. They are forever being schooled by those in the “know.”
- Dads by default act the role of an MVP. Dad is “the go-to guy.” Many times, dads hear: “Go ask you dad!”
- Dads are uniquely wired to have hands gentle enough to hold a newborn, yet strong enough to be called the strongest daddy in the world.
Yes, daddies learn to be dad because they learn to love, care and be there to help make sense of their child’s world and their world view.
The reward for a good dad is to be called father (on that third Sunday in June) when the child becomes an adult.
So…In Summary:
Dads are unique:
Unique in their strength
Unique in their presence
Unique in their perspective
AND Dads are uniquely missed in their absence.
Psalm 103:13: “Just as a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.
